Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, the beautiful nurse called Sofia in Guzaarish has to go through some very tough decisions in the movie. Guzaarish sees Ash essaying the character of a very matured, confident and bold nurse, who does not hesitate to sacrifice her life for the sake of love and duty.
The movie will see her taking a bold step of taking all the responsibility in her own hands to help her patient to go into a deep sleep for good! In other words, she decides to grant Ethan her patient the wish to end his life, even though that would mean she would be put behind bars on charges of a severe crime.
The fact that her patient, Ethan Mascarenhas played by Hrithik Roshan decides to end his life after fighting with a paralytic attack for fourteen years is like a sudden shock to all connected with the character Ethan. His doctor urges him not to punish himself, the court orders the request to be rejected downright, but Sofia is the only person who decides to give him relief from the pain and suffering. But just before she helps in to end his sufferings, she gifts him one last night of blissful love and hope.
Sofia’s decision to spend the last night with Ethan was more for the love or for the duty is certainly hard to decide. The pathos and irony of the entire climax of the movie certainly calls for some thought over the distinction between love and duty.
However, the underlying current of deep pain just cannot be missed out in the fact that life ends the moment one gets complete satisfaction out of one’s circumstances. So watch the movie to see Sofia caught between love and duty.
From Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999), their first film together, through the making of Devdas (2002) and the more recent Guzaarish (2010), Sanjay Leela Bhansali and his muse Aishwarya Rai Bachchan have shared a special relationship. And after bagging the Best Actress award for both those films, Aishwarya must now hope to complete a hat-trick with last Friday’s release?
Obviously proud of her performance as Sophia, a nurse to a quadriplegic who after vegetating for 14 long years files a petition in court for his mercy killing, Aishwarya arranged a special screening of Guzaarish for the Bachchans on the eve of the film’s release. Husband Abhishek flew down from Goa for a day where he is shooting for Players.
On Friday evening, Aishwarya requested for another screening, this time for her parents and the other Rais. It was to start at 10 pm so she could bring in her father Krishnaraj’s birthday at midnight. Mother Vrinda, brother Aditya and his wife and several other family members were present at Yashraj Studio, along with directors Subhash Ghai and David Dhawan. Also present were Shabana Azmi and Sonam Kapoor, the latter, too, back from the shoot of Players in Goa and waiting to resume work on Mausam.
Sonam, along with Ranbir Kapoor, had started off as Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s assistant director during Black (2005) before he launched them in Saawariya (2007). Today, she may be a star but for Bhansali she continues to be an AD. During the screening of the movie, Bhansali sent her scurrying around to see if the food had arrived, if the theatre was set and if the guests were ready. Sonam dutifully carried out his instructions with a “yes sir.” She even went to Aishwarya to enquire if they should start the film, and the two shared a quiet laugh over Sanjay. “It was really sweet,” says a source present at the screening. “During the interval, she chased after Sanjay sir telling him she loved the film. Only, she was told to hold her comments until the end of the film. Compliments also flowed in from Aishwarya’s family and her mother couldn’t stop crying.”
The sparks that flew when Akshay Kumar and Aishwarya Rai were teamed up for the first time by Rajkumar Santoshi in KHAKEE were evident to one and all. Though not exactly paired opposite each other, the screen really lit up whenever they appeared and sparkled together. Unfortunately nobody ever thought of casting them together as a proper pair till Vipul Shah's ACTION REPLAYY. So, did it throw a huge challenge to surpass the KHAKEE chemistry?
Director Vipul Shah has a different take, "Actually it was not really a challenge. As you know Aishwarya was paired opposite Ajay Devgn and was essaying a negative character in KHAKEE. You see here the case is totally different as Akshay and Aishwarya are romantically paired so you can very well predict what the chemistry will be like in ACTION REPLAYY!"
Nemesis of Katrina Kaif and Salman Khan’s ex (but now the Bachchan bahu) Aishwarya Rai stepped into her 38th year with her birthday on the 1st of November. And even as wishes poured in abundance right into her cell phone, there was no stopping Big B doing his own bid for his precious petite bahu.
Taking to his blog, he wished her happy birthday publicly posting, "It nears past midnight as we stroll out of the Hotel Taj and the wishes for Aishwarya start. Happy birthday daughter -in- law and may you achieve and get all that you so desire.”
And Aishwarya, despite her busy schedule, managed to lunch out with beau Abhishek who was looking utterly handsome in his tuxedo and bow tie. Aish, on her part, was looking resplendently ravishing in a pristine blue dress. The pic can be seen in Abhishek’s twitter account where he has posted it along with “There she is, as promised, the birthday girl.”
The pic shows Aish with mehendi on her hands and Abhishek holding her in a sidelong hug. Despite 3 years of marriage, their romance has seen no abatement but wherever they go, they continue to exude their undying love for each other.
With such a loving man by her side and two of her big films (Action Replayy and Guzaarish) slated for a bumper release, Aish couldn’t have been happier on her birthday.
